The Blessings Of The Past

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:1

  1     ^¶  To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, Maschil. We have heard with our ears, O YAHWEH, our fathers have told us, what work YOU did in their days, in the times of old.

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:2

  2    How YOU did drive out the heathen with YOUR hand, and planted them; how YOU did afflict the people, and cast them out.

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:3

  3    For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but YOUR right hand, and YOUR arm, and the Light of YOUR countenance, because YOU had a favor to them.

The Assurance Of The Present

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:4

  4    YOU are my KING, O YAHWEH: command deliverances for Yacob.

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:5

  5    Through YOU will we push down our enemies: through YOUR NAME will we tread them under that rise up against us.

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:6

  6    For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:7

  7    But YOU have saved us from our enemies, and has put them to shame that hated us.

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:8

  8    In YAHWEH we boast all the day long, and praise YOUR NAME forever. Selah.

The Abandonment Of Yisrael

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:9

  9     ^¶  But YOU have cast off, and put us to shame; and go not forth with our armies.

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:10

  10    YOU make us to turn back from the enemy: and they which hate us spoil for themselves.

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:11

  11    YOU have given us like sheep appointed for meat; and has scattered us among the heathen.

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:12

  12    YOU sell YOUR people for nought, and do not increase YOUR wealth by their price.

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:13

  13    YOU make us a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:14

  14    YOU make us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people.

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:15

  15    My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face has covered me,

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:16

  16    For the voice of him that reproachs and blasphemes; by reason of the enemy and avenger.

The Claim Of Faithfulness

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:17

  17     ^¶  All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten YOU, neither have we dealt falsely in YOUR covenant.

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:18

  18    Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from YOUR way;

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:19

  19    Though YOU have sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:20

  20    If we have forgotten the NAME of YAHWEH our ALMIGHTY, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:21

  21    Shall not YAHWEH search this out? for HE knows the secrets of the heart.

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:22

  22    Yes, for YOUR sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.

The Request Of Faithfulness

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:23

  23    Awake, why sleep YOU, O Sovereign YAHWEH? arise, cast us not off forever.

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:24

  24    Wherefore hide YOU YOUR face, and forget our affliction and our oppression?

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:25

  25    For our soul is bowed down to the dust: our belly cleaves to the earth.

TEHILLIM - PSALMS 44:26

  26    Arise for our help, and redeem us for YOUR mercies' sake.
