18 DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18

A Provision Respecting Levites

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:1

  1     ?  The kohenim the Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Yisrael: they shall eat the offerings of YAHWEH made by fire, and his inheritance.

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:2

  2    Therefore shall they have no inheritance among their brethren: YAHWEH is their inheritance, as he has said to them.

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:3

  3    And this shall be the kohen's due from the people, from them that offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep; and they shall give unto the kohen the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the maw.

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:4

  4    The firstfruit also of your corn, of your wine, and of your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep, shall you give him.

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:5

  5    For YAHWEH your ABBA has chosen him out of all your tribes, to stand to minister in the name of YAHWEH, him and his sons for ever.

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:6

  6    And if a Levite come from any of your gates out of all Yisrael, where he sojourned, and come with all the desire of his mind unto the place which YAHWEH shall choose;

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:7

  7    Then he shall minister in the name of YAHWEH his Sovereign Ruler, as all his brethren the Levites do, which stand there before YAHWEH.

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:8

  8    They shall have like portions to eat, beside that which comes of the sale of his patrimony.

The Abominations Of The Canaanites To Be Avoided

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:9

  9     ?  When you are come into the land which YAHWEH your ABBA gives you, you shall not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:10

  10    There shall not be found among you any one that makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that uses divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:11

  11    Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:12

  12    For all that do these things are an abomination unto YAHWEH: and because of these abominations YAHWEH your ABBA does drive them out from before you.

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:13

  13    You shall be perfect with YAHWEH your ABBA.

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:14

  14    For these nations, which you shall possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for you, YAHWEH your ABBA has not suffered you so to do.

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:15

  15     ?  YAHWEH your ABBA will raise up unto you a Prophet from the midst of you, of your brethren, like unto me; unto him you shall hearken;

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:16

  16    According to all that you desired of YAHWEH your ABBA in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of YAHWEH my ABBA, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not.

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:17

  17    And YAHWEH said to me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken.

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:18

  18    I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto you, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:19

  19    And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:20

  20    But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:21

  21    And if you say in your heart, How shall we know the word which YAHWEH has not spoken?

DEBARIM - DEUTERONOMY 18:22

  22    When a prophet speaks in the name of YAHWEH, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which YAHWEH has not spoken, but the prophet has spoken it presumptuously: you shall not be afraid of him.
