Manifestation of YAHWEH's Ruach haKodesh

The Power of YAHWEH's Ruach haKodesh

We here at Victory Community believe that the Ruach haKodesh indwells all true believers to lead, guide, teach, comfort, and empower us to live a righteous life in all THE TRUTH of YHWH. The anointing of the Ruach haKodesh is the unsearchable power of YAHWEH, conceived in the first place as the manifestation of YAHWEH's moving, manifested especially in the miraculous revelation to selected individuals and in their being filled by a force which gives marvelous Strength, Courage, Wisdom, and the Knowledge of YAHWEH's will and His dealings with men; later identified with the personal presence of YAHWEH, and regarded as the distinctive endowment of His people; and in the New Covenant understood as the manifestation of YAHWEH's operation in the body, made possible through the work of MESSIYAH and mediating the exalted MESSIYAH to His people and the body to its exalted HEAD.

Old Covenant conceptions of the Ruach haKodesh

As filling Yisrael's heroes

The Ruach of YAHWEH is regarded as the source of the endowment of Yisrael's heroes with extraordinary physical strength.
Example; Shophtim 14:6,19 "And the Ruach haKodesh of YAHWEH came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done. And the Ruach haKodesh of YAHWEH came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which expounded the riddle. And his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father's house."
Shophtim 15:14 "And when he came unto Lehi, the Philistines shouted against him: and the Ruach haKodesh of YAHWEH came mightily upon him, and the cords that were upon his arms became as flax that was burnt with fire, and his bands loosed from off his hands."

It is an Anointing and a Supreme power, which fills a man, and controls his actions like a tremendous inner force.  In such contexts "Ruach" retains something of its original meaning of "WIND." As the wind seizes upon the dust of the ground and animates it, blowing it where it will, like a live object, so the Anointing Ruach animates the human personality.  Occasionally the Ruach , conceived in this fashion as in a sense of-physical force, lays hold of a man physically, so as to raise him up and set him on his feet.
Example;  Yehezqel 2:2 "And the Ruach entered into me when he spoke unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spoke unto me."
Yehezqel 3:12,24 "Then the Ruach took me up, and I heard behind me a voice of a great rushing, saying, Blessed be the majesty of YAHWEH from His place. Then the Ruach entered into me, and set me upon my feet, and spoke with me, and said to me, Go, shut yourself within your house."
And even, apparently, to transport him from one place to another. Yehezqel 11:24 "Afterwards the Ruach took me up, and brought me in a vision by the Ruach haKodesh of YAHWEH into Chaldea, to them of the captivity. So the vision that I had seen went up from me."
The moving of the Ruach in the filling of a person can be dramatically described as "clothing itself" with the human being, putting him on like an outward garment, so completely does the Ruach become the dynamic inner power which energizes the unfilled person. Shophtim 6:34 "But the Ruach haKodesh of YAHWEH came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered after him."

As inspiring rulers

The Ruach, however, is principally thought of as the source of mental and spiritual perception and abilities, for it is YAHWEH'S infilling which inspires HIS chosen ones and so heightens their natural powers by its Anointing as to bestow upon them all those qualities which they need in order to fulfill their calling successfully. It is by the action of YAHWEH's Ruach haKodesh that kings and rulers receive the gifts necessary for leadership.
The judges, in particular, are represented as Ruach-filled men, gifted with qualities that enable them to govern Yisrael and save her from her oppressors; thus it is said of Othniel that " Ruach haKodesh of YAHWEH came upon him, and he judged Yisrael," and it was under the influence of Ruach haKodesh of YAHWEH that Gideon roused the tribes to repel the hostile Midianites and Jephthah advanced against the Ammonitish invaders.
Shophtim 3:10  "And the Ruach haKodesh of YAHWEH came upon him, and he judged Yisrael, and went out to war: and YAHWEH delivered Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushanrishathaim."  Shophtim 6:34 "But Ruach haKodesh of YAHWEH came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered after him."
Shophtim 11:29 "Then Ruach haKodesh of YAHWEH came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over unto the children of Ammon."
Sha'ul was similarly empowered to lead Yisrael to the relief of Jabesh-gilead. I ShemuEl (Samuel) 11:6  "And Ruach haKodesh of YAHWEH came upon Sha'ul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly."
Of more significance in the history of the Old Covenant belief in the working of the Ruach is the Ruach-infilling of David after ShemuEl had anointed him. I ShemuEl 16:13 "Then ShemuEl took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and Ruach haKodesh of YAHWEH came upon David from that day forward. So ShemuEl rose up, and went to Ramah."
As YAHWEH'S chosen king of Yisrael, David was a Ruach-filled ruler, and it is significant that it was after his choice and Anointing that Ruach haKodesh of YAHWEH is said to have departed from Sha'ul.

Hence the expectations associated with the house of David point to the hope of a ruler pre-eminently endowed with Ruach haKodesh of YAHWEH. The ideal figure of an inspired king, as it is portrayed by YeshaYahu 11:2 as the distinctive characteristic of Ruach-infilling through which he receives the sevenfold abundance of those gifts that are the special qualities of a wise and just ruler. This inward unction with the Ruach is evidently thought of as having an outward counterpart in the external rite of Anointing. Tehillim  (Psalm) 89:20-21 "I have found David My servant; with My Qadash oil have I Anointed him: With whom My hand shall be established: MY arm also shall strengthen him." This link between the ideas of Anointing and of Ruach-infilling reappears in connection with the SERVANT OF YAHWEH. YeshaYahu 42:1 "Behold MY servant, whom I uphold; MY elect, [in whom] my soul delights; I have put my Ruach haKodesh upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.." and  YAHWEH sent the prophet of YeshaYahu. 61:1, " Ruach haKodesh of the Sovereign YAHWEH is upon Me; because YAHWEH hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;" and in this respect associates these figures with that of the Yisraelite monarch.  The early assemblies' conception of  MESSIYAHship of YAHSHUA owes much to the two last-named passages, no doubt because he had himself interpreted his mission in terms of the Servant and the prophet of YeshaYahu 61 (if these can properly be separated).
